The above program is approved by Director General of Shipping, Government of India. The design of the course is as per the guidelines laid down by the Directorate General of Shipping. This training provides a School (X+II)/(‘A’ Level) leaver sure path to become a qualified Deck Officer. During the 36 Months training at Academy, approved by Director General of Shipping, Government of India the candidate is familiarized with various aspects in workshop comprising of Carpentry, Plumbing, Machine Shop, Electrical Shop and Hot Work. He is also required to complete mandatory STCW course. On successful completion of the B.sc in Nautical Science is awarded by Indian Maritime University (IMU), and then he undertakes the sea phase for 12 months on board ship residential training in Nautical Science, Trainee is required to undergo 4 months post-sea training in any training institute (2nd mate Function) approved by Director General of Shipping, Government of India. on Successful completion of the training & Passing the exam he will be awarded with a Certificate of Competency by Director General of Shipping and B.Sc. Degree in (Nautical Science) by IMU.
After this he goes for his Class IV Part B’ written & oral examination.
10+2 (‘A’ Levels) with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics with minimum 60% marks in PCM or B.Sc. Graduates/ Diploma with 55% marks in aggregate and minimum 50% marks in English at 10th or 12th level is must should be fluent in written & spoken English.
Not exceeding 25 years on the date of commencement of training.
Medically fit with eyesight 6/6, without external aids. No colour blindness.
NMS undertakes an Aptitude test followed by CET of IMU. The final selection will only take place after medical check-up through our panel Doctor, approved by D. G. Shipping Govt. of India.
